A link between two offices and an internet connection for a branch serve different purposes. The right circuit depends on where traffic needs to go, which applications use it, and how each location connects to the rest of your business.
EDISON provides private circuits, SD-WAN, IP transit and dedicated internet access for Hong Kong, mainland China and overseas locations, including customer-edge routers. Site addresses, bandwidth requirements and the existing network design form the basis of the circuit enquiry.
These services address different connection needs. A business may use more than one type across its locations.
| Connection | Purpose and planning points |
|---|---|
| IPLC | An international private leased circuit connects specified locations across borders. It is a starting point for a dedicated link between two sites. Confirm the endpoints, required capacity, handover interface and how the circuit connects to your existing routers. |
| MPLS VPN | A provider-managed private routed network can link several offices. It suits a site network where branches need to exchange application, voice or other business traffic. Plan the site topology, IP addressing and traffic priorities together with the customer-edge routers. |
| SD-WAN | A software-defined WAN manages several connections, such as MPLS, DIA and broadband, as one network. Application traffic can be steered across the available links. Confirm the sites, the existing circuits at each one and the applications that need priority. |
| IP Transit | IP transit connects your own network to the wider internet through a carrier backbone. It is typically used where an organisation or data centre runs its own routing and public IP addresses. Confirm the required capacity, address space and routing arrangements. |
| DIA | Dedicated internet access connects a location to the public internet. Consider internet-based applications, cloud services, upload and download requirements, and any public IP addresses needed. A DIA connection serves a different role from a private link between offices. |
The circuit also needs to fit the applications, routing and firewall design at each end. A private network separates traffic from the public internet; encryption requirements should be considered separately. If an interruption would stop work, discuss a backup route and how traffic would switch to it.
Share the full installation addresses and your target date early. Building access, local circuit availability and carrier arrangements need to be confirmed before a delivery schedule can be agreed.
Send the site addresses, connection purpose, bandwidth requirement and target installation date.
