From packing to bringing systems back online.

An IT move can range from transporting equipment to relocating an operating server room. The required scope depends on who will disconnect, pack, install and reconnect each system, and who is responsible for confirming it works at the destination.

EDISON offers packing and transport, de-racking and re-racking, and de-commissioning and re-commissioning. These services can form part of an office move, a server room relocation or a transfer into a data centre.

  • Pack and transport: equipment packed in foam-lined flight cases, moved and handed over
  • De-rack and re-rack to your rack plan
  • De-commission and re-commission, including cabling, re-patching and documentation
  • Full server room and data centre relocation
  • Transport
  • De-rack / re-rack
  • Re-commissioning

Choose how much of the move to include.

The scope should say where EDISON’s work starts and ends. Transporting a server and bringing its applications back into service are different tasks.

Relocation options and their boundaries
OptionWork to include and confirm
Pack and transportEquipment is packed in foam-lined flight cases, moved and handed over. Identify the items, collection and delivery points, building access and the person receiving them. Confirm separately who disconnects and reconnects the equipment.
De-rack and re-rackEquipment is removed from its existing rack and installed to the agreed rack plan at the destination. Confirm cabinet positions, mounting arrangements and equipment placement. Cabling, system start-up and application checks need their own agreed scope.
De-commission and re-commissionThe move includes cabling, re-patching and documentation as part of the agreed re-commissioning work. Define the shutdown order, destination connections, restart sequence and the checks used to accept the completed move.

Prepare the destination before shutdown.

New racks, power, cooling, cabling and circuits should be ready for the equipment that will arrive. Confirm loading access, lift bookings and permitted work hours at both sites. The relocation window also needs to allow for the agreed reconnection and system checks.

Use an equipment inventory and rack plan to define the move. Identify application owners, shutdown permissions, current backup arrangements and a plan if a system cannot restart as expected. These decisions should be made before the transport date.
